WHAT?
Unnata® Aerial Yoga (unnata, meaning "elevated" in Sanskrit) combines traditional mat yoga with postures suspended in a soft, fabric sling a few feet off the ground. With the help of gravity and the fabric, we play, explore, and create space in our bodies with ease as intended in traditional asana practice. Without the compression of the joints and spine we can find a more vibrant, unencumbered, and balanced expression of each pose.
With the fabric as a learning tool, students often find "Aha!" moments that bring new life and understanding to poses they previously feared. Participants take turns on the slings and mats to facilitate awareness of the body in all planes. Through Unnata Aerial Yoga the fascia unwind, the mind quiets, core-strength is built, and participants leave feeling whole.
Another Yoga Fad?Yoga philosophies such as ahimsa (non-harm) and mindfuless are the foundation of Unnata Aerial Yoga. Asanas (postures) are practiced with a focus on breath, alignment, relaxation, and meditation. The sling is no different than strap or block, intended to assist alignment and deepen your awareness.

BECKY STELLAWith a background in dance, Becky came to yoga in her early 20s, amazed at the transformation it brought. In the fall of 2003 she completed the Thai Yoga Bodywork Basics Program through Tanya Boigenzahn Sowards, and in fall 2005 completed her 200-hour Yoga Teacher Certification through a year-long Yoga Study program at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. Her fascination with circus performance eventually led her to aerial acrobatics classes with Wicked Sister Dance (classes now run by Aerial Collective). In early 2009 she completed her TRX Suspension® teacher training and later that year traveled to NYC to study under Michelle Dortignac, creator of Unnata® Aerial Yoga, fusing the practices and philosophies of yoga with the physical benefits of the aerial arts. She now teaches Unnata® Aerial Yoga and coordinates the teacher training program at the Yoga Center of Minneapolis. Through her teaching, Becky hopes to help students find compassion for themselves and others. She strives for a balance of discipline and light-heartedness in yoga and all aspects of life.
